Biography

Dr. Michael Petermeyer is a renowned specialist in neurosurgery, pain therapy, emergency and expedition medicine, bringing over three decades of medical expertise, and currently heads the Center for Neurosurgery and Pain Therapy in Diez, Germany. He serves as the expedition doctor on call and the safety, rescue, and evacuation consultant for Utopia Adventures.

Dr. Petermeyer’s expedition background is extraordinary. He has been a medical director on several high-profile expeditions, including a Cold Pole expedition in Siberia and a high-altitude record-setting jeep expedition at Ochos de Salado, Chile (6,965 metres). He has travelled to more than 100 countries and 25 trips to India, where he engaged in motorcycle journeys across Ladakh, Spiti, and the challenging Chadar trek. His leadership in the 2014 Riesending cave rescue, the world’s largest mountain rescue operation, and his role as a consultant during the 2018 Thai cave rescue, further solidified his reputation as one of the foremost experts in remote and high-risk medical operations.
